BEGINNERS 101 A

Below is wallpaper that I have on my computer.

Place the mouse pointer in the middle of the screen and click with the RIGHT mouse button. A popup menu appears as show in the graphic below.

Now I can do a lot of things with this picture above. I can SAVE, E-MAIL, PRINT or use it as wall paper on my computer screen.

Should you be out on the web and find a picture you would like as wallpaper a right click will with the mouse pointer on the picture will give you a menu where you can set the picture as background.

Screen Saver

A RIGHT click on your DESKTOP and another click on PROPERTIES will give the program as shown in the graphic below

Above Display Properties menu has more tabs Screen Saver Appearance and Settings to look at. Notice below that I have the screen saver tab on top. I have my screen saver to change every 10 minutes and MY Pictures Slideshow is what my screen saver is showing. Below are several pictures that can be displayed with a click on the down arrow point.

Always click on apply and ok for changes to take effect

Appearance

When the appearance TAB on DISPLAY PROPERTIES is used the changes in your computer appearance can drastically be changed. For example look at FONT SIZE. You can have normal, large or Extra large fonts, which I use on my home computer

Whenever you make changes on your computer at home I would suggest that you change only one item at a time then click on apply. Click on ok closing the menu up and see if you like the change if not you can always go back and change it to the original settings.

RELOCATING THE TASKBAR

CHANGING TIME

A double click on the time will give you the menu below. Month, year and time can be changed with a click on the arrow points.

VOLUME CHANGE

A double click on the speaker ICON on the taskbar will let you increase or decrease the volume on your computer

A PEAK UNDER THE WORD START

A click on the word start and this opens a large list of menus. Some examples are from bottom of the list to the top are Turn off your computer, Log off, All Programs, Run, Search, Control Panel, My Computer, and My Doc. Clicking on these words will give you programs, which will let you do several different things.

As you are all a ware of when you close your computer down. You have a choice of Restart or shutting the computer off. Restart shuts it down and then restarts your computer but when you turn your computer off and then turn it back on the computer goes through a routine and can in a lot of cases repair it’s self.

A single click on RUN and the run menu appears as show below

I typed in SOL in the box and a click on OK and I have a game of SOLITARIE

Search is another word under start. A click On search and it opens a program to help you find programs or pictures on your computer

I am looking for a picture of CLOUDS so I have clicked on Pictures Music and Video and typed in the word CLOUDS and placed a check mark in the square. As seen below. Finish with a click on SEARCH and the Search engine will go through my computer looking for all the pictures I have on clouds.

I have one picture of clouds on my computer. Now if I wanted to I could right click that picture and use it as wallpaper.

You have a lot of hidden pictures on your computer. To find them type in your search engine the following command. *.jpg or *.gif (asterisk dot JPG)
