Specimen for Approval Folders
The English text for these folders under the Bengali at the top reads, "THE SECURITY PRINTING CORPORATION (BANGLADESH) LTD./GAZIPUR-1703, BANGLADESH". The bottom reads, "SPECIMEN FOR APPROVAL".
All specimen stamps affixed to these booklets are imperforate.
Most of the folders will have a rubber stamp in either black or purple ink and the signature of the postal person in ink, with a notation that the stamps is either "Approved" or "Not Approved." I have several in my collection that do not have a rubber stamp, nor any signature nor notation as to the fact that the item is approved or not.
Please note that I have made all the illustrations the same size, regardless of the folder size.
- This is the earlier type and size of folder I have in my collection. As is the second type, this is blank on the back outside cover. I have only seen one type of paper for these and it differs from those used in the smaller folders. It has a smooth shiny surface to it. Also, the blue ink used for the printing is darker than the later, smaller folders.
This is shown in the actual size, which is approximately 111mm x 300mm when unfolded.
- This folder is shown actual size and is smaller than the first one used, which is illustrated above. These folders, when unfolded, measure approximately 98mm x 270mm. This size folder is found with two textures of paper. In the illustrations below I will indicate the paper type for each folder. The back of the folder is blank and the printing on the inside pages, when it is opened, are shown below.
All specimens on this page are on the larger folder.
- An approved design for the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stamp issued on August 15, 1996. The stamp is on a large folder with shiny paper.
- The approved design for the 6 taka stamp, of the two stamp set, for the 25th Anniversary of Victory Day, Issued on December 16, 1996. This is on a large folder with shiny paper.
- The approved design for the Silver Jubilee of Independence, issued March 25, 1997. This is on a large folder with shiny paper.
- An approved design on a large folder with shiny paper of the Death Centenary of Heinrich von Stephan, the founder of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). This stamp was issued on April 8, 1997.
- This folder is the larger size. This is an approved imperforate specimen of the 6 taka value of the two stamp set of Paintings of Bangladesh (2nd series) that was issued on July 26, 1997. This painting is by the artist S.M. Sultan (1923-1994) and is entitled "Tilling the Field - 2."
- This folder is the larger size. This is an approved imperforate specimen of the 10 taka value of the two stamp set of Paintings of Bangladesh (2nd series) that was issued on July 26, 1997. This painting is by the artist Quamrul Hassan (1921-1988) and is entitled "Three Women."
- This design was not approved. It is very poorly put together. The writing is much too small for the design and the red color makes it difficult to read at the bottom. The image measures 42mm x 31mm. The bottom writing was changed to white in the approved design. This is on the large shiny folder.
- This design was not accepted as the writing was still too small. Also, the red writing at the bottom is too difficult to read. In the approved design it was changed to white. This design measures 47 1/2mm x 32mm. This is on the large shiny paper folder.
- This is the approved design of the issued stamp. This stamp measures 48mm x 32mm. Notice that the folder is not signed, nor is there a rubber stamp from the Post Office Department on the folder. This stamp was issued on September 4, 1997. The folder is the older large size with shiny paper.
- This 4 taka fiscal stamp and the folder are forgeries. The stamp is printed on very shiny thin white paper with a thin translucent gum, unlike the issued stamp. A high magnification of the stamp and the printing on the folder make it clear that this is not genuine.
This stamp is from the same printing as the imperforated block of four I have illustrated on my REVENUES page. I will be placing copies of this folder and the block of four on the FAKES AND FORGERIES page as well.
