- LEFT: An "unofficial" poster made by two individuals for the Chicago Jazz Festival. The festival was held from August 31 - September 4, 1988 in Grant Park, Chicago, IL. At the present time anyone creating a poster for the festival is not permitted to use the term, "Chicago Jazz Festival". Only the City of Chicago, that funds it, and the Jazz Institute of Chicago, that programs it, are permitted to do so. Size: 24 x 20ins. The photo was taken the day of the Chicago Marathon and one or more runners can be seen in the background. The model they hired did not show up and this man was recruited to pose for the picture. The two individuals each took photos and when the films were developed got mixed up and they did not know which person had taken the photo used for the poster. As a result, different posters are autographed by either one or the other as "the photographer".
RIGHT: The Glasgow, Scotland International Jazz Festival from July 7 - 9, 1993. I was told by an employee of the festival that Nina Simone failed to show for the festival. Size: 40 3/4 x 60 3/4ins.
- LEFT: A great design for a poster by Niklaus Troxler, the founder of the Willisau Jazz Festival, Willisau, Switzerland, and a famous European poster maker. The festival dates were August 26 - 29, 1976. Troxler posters are quite expensive and not easy to find, except in poster and art galleries. Size: 35 1/2 x 50 ins.
