Art Ensemble of Chicago Posters
- This is probably the rarest poster in my collection. It is for a benefit performance for the Black Panther Party. The date is November 2, 1970. The three groups performing were the Clifford Thornton Quartet, The Franck (misspelled) Wright Quartet and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. The concert was at the Palais de la Mutualite, Paris, France. Size: 24 x 31 1/2ins.
- This is the most famous image of the Art Ensemble and this image and others taken at the same time have been used numerous times. While this poster is for a perfromance on July 11, 1990 at Immanuelskirche, Wuppertal-Barmen, Germany, the photo was taken in Italy. Size: 33 x 23 ins.
- LEFT: The Art Ensemble in Paris on July 3, 1987 at La Grande Halle. Other groups in the festival, but on different days, were Dexter Gordon, Herbie Hancock, Neils Henning Orsted Pedersen, etc., The poster is now autographed by Cedar Walton and Buster Williams. Size: 30 1/2 x 46 ins.
RIGHT: The Art Ensemble in Paris at The Grand Auditorium, Radio France, October 25, 1976 Size: 47 x 62 1/2 ins.
I have many different Art Ensemble of Chicago original posters (About 200) and posters by some of them with their individual groups. I am slowly getting them mounted on linen. It is quite expensive as some of them are quite large. Eventually I will post them on this page.

- LEFT: The Art Ensemble at the St. Louis, MO Jazz festival on October 16, 1988. The poster is autographed by Willie Pickens the well-known Chicago piano player who is on the Eddie Harris "Exodus" album and toured with Elvin Jones. Willie was always the piano player at the Jazz Showcase and has backed just about everyone who is anyone in the jazz field. Size: 8 1/2 x 11ins.

- LEFT: Charlie Mingus and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, appearing at the Berkeley Community Theatre on November 2, 1973. Keith Jarrett was originally scheduled to appear but cancelled and the Art Ensemble was hired to replace him. Size: 10 x 14ins. This poster has been reprinted and is offered on eBay. This is the genuine size of the original poster. The reproductions are a different size.

- LEFT: Art Ensemble at the Entermedia Theater, New York City, NY, October 7, 1978. The two figures are Don Moye and Malachi Favors. Size: 14 x 23 1/2ins. This poster is autogrphed by Famoudou Don Moye on the sleeve of the person.
RIGHT: Reprint of a poster useing a nearly identical image to the one on the left. Art Ensemble at the U. of California at Berkeley, Zellerbach Auditorium, Berkeley CA, January 11, 1975. I also have a copy of the original poster in my collection. Size: 17 3/4 x 23 3/4ins.
- LEFT: A copy of the photo used for the drawings of the above two posters. The photo is of Malachi Favors, the late bassist of the group.
RIGHT: The Art Ensemble at the Jazz Festival in Mexico City, Mexico on May 22, 1981. Two different sized posters, with a different format exist for this festival.
- LEFT: Left Bank Jazz Society poster for events coming to the Famous Ballroom, Baltimore, MD. The Art Ensemble was scheduled for an appearance on October, 15, 1978. Others scheduled were Sony Fortune, Woody Herman, Barry Harris, Eddie Harris, Milt Jacskon and Chico Hamilton. Size: 11 x 17ins. On February 17, 2006 I talked with Barry Harris and asked him to autographs this poster. He was a performing guest at the Willie Pickens' birthday bash at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. This photo was taken before it was autographed.

RIGHT: Small poster for October 20 - 22, 1978 at the Quient Knight, Chicago, IL. Many now well-known rock groups performed at this club. Size: 8 1/2 x 11ins.
- LEFT: At the Blue Note in Tokyo, Japan from September 10 - 15, 1990. The reverse has various groups (Lou Rawls, Al Di Meola, Maynard Ferguson, Joe Williams, Betty Carter, Billy Eckstine, Astrud Gilberto Stanley Jordan and Michel Petrucciani, Steve Gadd and Eddie Gomez) appearing there between September 17 and November 17, 1990. Size: 8 1/4 x 11 1/2.
